NDP MOTION WOULD MODERNIZE PETITIONS, OPEN UP PARLIAMENT

OTTAWA – New Democrats Kennedy Stewart (Burnaby–Douglas) and Deputy Critic for Democratic Reform Alexandrine Latendresse (Louis-Saint-Laurent) will hold a press conference on Friday to announce the tabling of a motion to modernize the House of Commons’ petitions process and let Canadians force their issues onto the floor of Parliament.

Over the past few months, I have been contacting residents across Burnaby-Douglas to ask about their thoughts on Kinder Morgan's plan to double the Trans Mountain pipeline.  I had a tremendous response with almost 5 000 people taking part in my survey.

BURNABY – A new survey commissioned by New Democrat MP Kennedy Stewart (Burnaby-Douglas) of 35,000 households in his constituency reveals 72 per cent oppose Kinder Morgan’s plan to double the capacity of the Trans Mountain Oil pipeline.

Of those with an opinion, 28 percent support doubling pipeline capacity, 44 per cent want to keep the existing pipeline, and 28 percent want the company to remove the current pipeline infrastructure.
